It’s been a rocky year to say the least for Pedro Strop, who dealt with a hamstring injury in spring training and then another one that forced him to miss close to a month beginning in May. His velocity just hasn’t been the same since April and its cost the Cubs.
Right before reports came out on the Cubs trade for Blue Jays reliever David Phelps, news also broke that the team was sending Strop to the injured list. He’ll be replaced by right-hander Duane Underwood, as the Cubs begin a three-game series against the Cardinals.
However, with the trade, expect Underwood to only be up for Tuesday night’s game in St. Louis and then get replaced by Phelps on Wednesday.
Let’s hope the time off gives Strop enough rest and hopefully he comes back strong because the Cubs bullpen needs as much help as it can get. If Strop can return to his previous form it would be a huge boost.
