Cubs Fans Are Going To Go Crazy For Brennen Davis After This Comparison

So, among other things in 2020, it really sucks that there’s no minor league baseball season. Maybe as Cubs fans we’ll get to see a few pitching prospects come up later in the year, but for the most part all we’ll get are some Twitter videos from intrasquad games at South Bend.

However, that doesn’t mean you can’t get on the Brennen David hype train right this second. The outfield prospect turned heads all over the minors in 2019, when he posted a .907 OPS in 50 games. An injury slowed him down a tad, but everything the Cubs wanted to see from their 2018 second round pick happened.

Nothing was more exciting to see than Davis’ power being put on full display and it keeps getting better.

Tommy Birch, who covers the Iowa Cubs for the Des Moines Register, caught up with Triple-A manager Marty Pevey and he had some very exciting things to say.

Pevey joined the Cubs organization in 2009, serving as manager in Single-A, then minor league hitting coordinator for three years and has been the Iowa manager at Triple-A since 2013.

Think of all the players he’s seen for the past decade and now look at this quote about Brennen Davis.

Yes, I’ll gladly take a comparison to *checks notes* Hall of Famer Dale Murphy!

Davis, 20, was drafted out of high school and it really only took one year being in pro ball to fix his swing. It definitely helps that he’s put in the work and is filling out that 6-foot-4 frame.

You’ll definitely want to check out the entire article from Birch, as Pevey also talks about a few more prospects including a couple pitchers who we may see in the majors this year. (I hope so anyway)
