Cubs Calling Up Their No. 1 Prospect

-

According to reports the Chicago Cubs are calling up their top prospect Owen Caissie. In the team’s 4-1 win over the Toronto Blue Jays Wednesday night catcher Miguel Amaya suffered a gruesome injury in the eighth inning, when he stumbled over first base and needed to be carted off. Instead of calling up Moises Ballesteros, who has been up twice this year, the Cubs are reportedly bringing up Caissie from Triple-A.

Caissie, 23, is in his second year with the Iowa Cubs at Triple-A, and he’s been red-hot since late May. Since May 20, the left-handed hitting outfielder has recorded a slash line of .330/.424/.633 with 16 home runs. Now, he’ll be getting a chance in the majors.

Entering Wednesday’s action, Caissie had a .966 OPS, slashing .292/.393/.573 in 92 games. On Tuesday, Caissie crushed his 22nd home run of the year.

The Cubs acquired the outfielder back in Dec. 2020, when Caissie and three other teenage prospects were brought into Chicago from the San Diego Padres in exchange for Yu Darvish and Victor Caratini.
