Willson Contreras tried to get into a fight with the Chicago Cubs on Thursday, but he eventually apologized to his former team after a bit of a tantrum on the field. Contreras wasn’t happy that he got plunked by Cubs closer Daniel Palencia and then got more upset after Palencia returned the fire following his eighth save of the season. What did Cubs manager Craig Counsell think of all the drama?
Well, this is the perfect Counsell response. Short and sweet. Serious, but you know he’s smiling on the inside. Counsell was too busy celebrating the 3-0 win to notice Contreras roaming around the field after the Cardinals were shutout for the second straight game.
So nonchalant about it, but I bet he wanted to smirk right at the camera.
Contreras ended up apologizing to the Cubs after the game.

Willson Contreras says he reacted in the moment to being hit again and told pitcher to “throw strikes.” “My reaction was bad. I apologize to the Chicago Cubs for the way I reacted. … I don’t want to fight them.”
Funny enough, Palencia did throw strikes and a lot of them after hitting Contreras. The hard-throwing righty struck out Nolan Arenado, Thomas Saggese and Nolan Gorman on 15 pitches, 10 of which were strikes.
