Big Brain Fart In 9th Inning Leads To Cubs Loss

-

Pedro Strop looked terrible against the Marlins Monday night at Wrigley Field, where he was trying to secure the Cubs eighth win in a row. Yet, he was doomed from the start, as he walked the first two batters in the ninth inning and then gave up a single. With the bases loaded and one on out, Strop walked his third batter in the ninth, which tied the game at four.

Joe Maddon then brought in lefty Kyle Ryan. He got a fielder’s choice on the first batter he faced, which gave the Marlins a 5-4 edge. Then, Ryan had a big brain fart, as the Marlins scored a sixth run on a bouncer hit right back to the Cubs reliever.

Ryan could have thrown out the Marlins runner from third at home, or gotten him in a rundown, but instead the Cubs pitcher inexplicably threw over to first base. The Cubs did get a double play, but the Marlins scored again to make it 6-4.

What made that even more frustrating was that Kris Bryant then launched a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth.

That could have been a game-tying home run.

Oh well, the seven-game winning streak is over for the Cubs, but hey another great sign for Bryant.
