Travis Wood hasn’t had many things go right for him since he last pitched for the Chicago Cubs. We remember him at the World Series parade, going shirtless, but there hasn’t been much joy on the field for the lefty in the past couple years. He was hoping to get his career back on track with the Detroit Tigers this season, but now he’ll most likely be out the entire year after suffering a torn ACL.
The knee injury for Wood comes after he came to Tigers’ camp with a finger injury from a crossbow incident back in January. The accident almost cost Wood his finger, but luckily that wasn’t needed. He was making his spring training debut with his new club on Thursday, when he tore his ACL and medial meniscus in left knee after beginning a rundown.
Travis Wood suffered a torn ACL and medial meniscus yesterday, the Tigers announced. Weighing surgical options at the moment.

Wood, 31, split time with the Kansas City Royals and San Diego Padres in 2017, and it didn’t pan out. He pitched in 39 games, making 14 starts, while posting a 6.80 ERA and 1.73 WHIP in 94 innings.
He signed a minor-league deal with the Tigers this offseason, but Wood’s spring training was delayed after this happened on a hunting trip.
Hopefully Wood makes a speedy recovery from this knee injury and who knows maybe he re-invents his career to being a designated hitter/4th outfielder.
