Hey, remember when the Cubs won the 2016 World Series, erasing a 3-1 series deficit against Cleveland? Fun times and for the first time since 2016, the Cubs have started the year with an 11-3 record following their 7-1 win Tuesday night.

There’s no doubt the Cubs are having fun on the field so far in 2020, making the most of the circumstances, as the dugout has been providing more than enough energy through the first three weeks of the season. Of course, winning also feeds into that energy and right now it’s all good vibes for the Cubs.

But back to 2016.

Remember when Jason Kipnis hit a foul ball down the right-field line, but for a split second it seemed like he just hit a walk-off HR to win the World Series?

Luckily that didn’t happen and well, you know what happened next.

Anyway, the Cubs returned to Cleveland and Anthony Rizzo just couldn’t wait to troll Kipnis.

How can you not love Anthony Rizzo.

As far as game one of the quick two-game series against Cleveland, Kipnis had some fun with the lack of crowd.

And then in his first at-bat Kipnis doubled to right field.

Kipnis has been outstanding in his limited playing time so far this season, going 7-for-19, with three walks. Out of his seven hits he’s crushed two homers, two doubles and a triple. With Nico Hoerner struggling, we’re probably going to see a bit more of Kipnis at second base.

The Cubs were held in check through the first five innings of the game, only scoring one run but then put up five in the sixth inning. Tuesday’s game was the first time this year that any team scored more than four runs against Cleveland’s pitching staff.

So much for rust, as the Cubs had four days off following their postponed series in St. Louis over the weekend.

Jon Lester continues to be fantastic.

Through three starts, Lester has only allowed seven hits!

Ian Happ reached base three more times, and is currently a top-10 hitter in baseball.

Happ has a .936 OPS and 142 wRC+ since he was called up from Triple-A at the end of July last year.

Ignore Ryan Dempster and look at Rizzo’s nonchalant play from the dugout.

Oh and back to the 11-3 start…

…interesting.
