Alex Bregman was the villain of the first half, as he was a major disappointment at the plate, but he hasn’t just turned it around since July; the third baseman has been the best hitter in MLB since the All-Star break. The unequivocal clubhouse leader for the Chicago Cubs kept the good vibes going during Thursday’s off day as he produced the best bonding trip of the 2026 season.
Before Friday’s series opener against the Cincinnati Reds, Bregman was able to celebrate a victory at Churchill Downs, where his family-owned horse, Act of Parliament, won a race at the world-renowned horse racing track in Kentucky. But it wasn’t only Bregman in the winner’s circle, as the third baseman had the entire team, players and coaches, beside him to bask in the glory.
Bregman has been on a roll and is currently the top-rated third baseman in MLB with a league-leading 5.2 fWAR. The right-handed hitter is slashing .264/.354/.458 and has 26 home runs. Bregman is the front-runner to win his second career Gold Glove award and is helping lead the Cubs to their second straight postseason.
Individually, Bregman is eyeing his 10th straight playoff appearance.

Pete Crow-Armstrong, who is on the verge of becoming the seventh player in MLB history to have a 40/40 season, brought good luck to Churchill Downs. The star center fielder was spotted giving Bregman’s horse a pep talk before the race.
While PCA had the Midas touch, left-handed relief pitcher Ryan Rolison stole the show. He arrived in a horse-and-jockey costume and was the life of the party Thursday night.
