This is an absolutely horrific scene from Houston, where a child was hit with a foul ball after Albert Almora Jr. lined a ball behind the Cubs dugout.
Apparently there’s no protective netting and the fan was immediately taken away.
Almora was visibly shaken by the incident and broke down crying near home plate.
Every player shown on camera was shaken too and after Almora’s at-bat ended he wiped away more tears as he headed into the dugout.
If you were watching the game live when this happened, seeing Almora’s reaction coupled with the entire stadium going silent really was a horrifying feeling.
Almora was also seen talking with a security guard between innings.
We’ll give an update when there’s one provided by the Astros.
UPDATE
According to a Reddit user, the young fan, a girl, was taken to the hospital and is OK.
Still, unbelievable how MLB doesn’t require netting behind the dugouts. Guys are hitting balls 100mph. No matter how good your reflexes there’s no way that’s safe.
But hopefully that info is accurate about the young fan.
