New Reports Out Of Antetokounmpo’s Camp And What They Mean For Chicago

-

Yesterday afternoon, on 670 The Score, Chicago Bulls fans were dealt a blow with a report from Lou Canellis of Fox 32 News. In his segment with Chicago’s leading sports radio station, he broke the news that Giannis Antetokounmpo’s camp reached out to the Bulls, but were met with an uninterested front office in a potential trade. Arturas Karnisovas reportedly wants to stick with his current assets, continue with the existing plan, and see the developmental project through. This was met with outrage and confusion by the fans. For a franchise that has underperformed for over a decade and has only had one playoff win in Karnisovas’s entire tenure, this was the perfect opportunity to catapult itself to relevancy once again. Despite the widespread notion that Chicago rejected Antetokounmpo’s representation, subsequent reports indicate that they’ll continue to monitor the Bulls’ situation and that the door isn’t completely closed.

More Losing Will Mean Chicago Needs A Shakeup

Headed into the regular season, the Bulls’ main objective was to reach the postseason. Karnisovas said it himself in preseason interviews, and Billy Donovan supported the same message: competitiveness was the backbone of this franchise and their primary goal. If that’s truly the case, a trade for an All-Star-level talent will occur. After a 6-1 start and things firing on all cylinders, the Bulls have dropped 11 of their last 14 outings, and have allowed 120 or more points in 12 of them. They’ve developed into the worst defense leaguewide and allow the most points in the paint in the NBA. Shipping off Vucevic and adding Antetokounmpo, or Anthony Davis, would instantly solve these problems. How much losing does Chicago need to do before action is taken?

Not Entirely Out On Giannis Yet

After seeing the latest reports, the Greek Freak chapter may not be finished in Chicago. His camp reached out to the Bulls almost immediately, meaning this is a preferred destination for the former NBA Finals MVP. While initial reports say that Karnisovas turned them away, there’s still a slim chance they can rejoin the hunt. The good news? There has only been one report, from a Chicago sports anchor who is not solely an avid Bulls reporter, and from that group of reporters, nothing has been heard. It’s smart to confirm these rumors with at least one source closer to the situation before assuming the Bulls are completely out on Antetokounmpo. Similarly, there’s one source claiming that his camp will not move on from the Bulls quite yet.

Will the asking price continue to drop as time passes, and will Chicago get progressively more desperate as the losses continue to stack? Hopefully, for the entire fan base, both things can come together down the road. For the time being, Karnisovas has officially lost any remaining supporters and now has a whole city demanding answers.
