VIDEO: Kyler Gordon Called His INT Vs. Buffalo

-

Ask anybody that has been an athlete in sports. There are those times when you just have a feeling it’s going to be your day. The body feels good. The mind is sharp. It’s all clicking. That is when you have no problem making bold proclamations about what will happen in a game. Everybody remembers the famous Baker Mayfield presser where he said he woke up “feeling dangerous” right before he torched the Atlanta Falcons for three touchdowns and completed 85% of his passes. It appears Kyler Gordon had a similar feeling last Sunday.

The rookie cornerback didn’t seem to mind the brutal cold of Soldier Field. Not a surprise for somebody who grew up in Washington. He also felt pretty good after the week before when he intercepted Jalen Hurts. So while talking to a teammate on the sideline during the Buffalo Bills game, the 2nd round pick stated his belief that he’d intercept Josh Allen before the final whistle. It didn’t take long. Early in the 2nd quarter, quarterback Josh Allen took a shot at the end zone from the Bears’ 28-yard-line.

It was a mistake.

Kyler Gordon is morphing into a quality player.

It didn’t start out that way. Opposing quarterbacks found it easy to pick on him early in the season. Some wondered if the Bears had badly misevaluated him. Head coach Matt Eberflus didn’t blink. He said the rookie was working through the same growing pains every young player does. They kept him in the lineup, believing his talent and work ethic would start to show eventually. Now he has interceptions in back-to-back games against two of the best quarterbacks in the league this season.

His confidence is skyrocketing. That video proves it. If he continues this ascent along with fellow rookie Jaquan Brisker, the Bears may have positioned themselves to have a top secondary in the future. Kyler Gordon has the versatility to play inside and outside. Such things are rare in this league. It’s one of the big reasons Chicago liked him so much. The goal moving forward is putting a defensive line in front of him that can actually rush the passer.
