VIDEO: George McCaskey Spotted Picking Up Ryan Poles Personally

-

Ryan Poles was the first GM candidate the Chicago Bears decided to give a second interview over these past two weeks. The 36-year old Kansas City Chiefs director of player personnel made a big impression in the first meeting. So big it seems that a report has since surfaced that the team is expected to offer him the job if this second interview goes as well as the first. If people needed any further confirmation of its truth, an enterprising Bears fans put that to rest with a video from O’Hare airport that caught team chairman George McCaskey picking Poles up personally.

Now it’s possible that McCaskey does this for every candidate. He is a rather unique owner. Somebody that is known for his class, personable style, and humble nature. That being said, it seems rather hard to ignore that the man who basically runs the entire football organization decided to pick up a top GM candidate from the airport just hours before his scheduled interview. It sends a clear message that Poles might indeed be the guy.

An inspired choice if nothing else.

Poles was an undrafted free agent out of Boston College in 2008, signing with the Bears. He didn’t last long. When it became clear his playing career wouldn’t go any further, he transitioned to scouting. Joining the Chiefs in 2009, he began working his way up the franchise ladder. Along the way, he survived three GM changes and after just 10 years had risen to become their director of player personnel. A rapid ascent in this industry.

The young man comes across as intelligent, confident, and understanding the importance of strong relationships in an organization. It isn’t hard to see why George McCaskey and the rest of Bears ownership took a liking to him. If this video offers the indications it seems to, Pole could be announced as the next GM in the coming days.
