If there is one player who seems to be gaining serious momentum as somebody the Chicago Bears want to draft, it is TreVeyon Henderson. The Ohio State running back is one of the most explosive in a stacked class. He was crucial to the Buckeyes’ championship run. Head coach Ben Johnson loves speed and versatility. Henderson is not only a home run threat but one of the best pass protectors at his position in the draft. One would think the Bears wouldn’t eye him because they already have D’Andre Swift, who is a similar player. That is before you recall Johnson let the Detroit Lions trade him to Philadelphia two years ago.
The buzz around Henderson is building. It has gotten to a point where multiple top insiders believe he is a lock for the 1st round. Benjamin Allbright of KOA Colorado went so far as to say that Chicago taking him at #10 overall isn’t out of the question. A big reason for that is the running back apparently has a relationship with running backs coach Eric Bieniemy. That would explain the team’s growing interest in him.

TreVeyon Henderson at #10 would be one of the draft’s shockers.
Most expect Boise State star Ashton Jeanty to be the first running back off the board, most likely to Las Vegas at #6. After that, Omarion Hampton of North Carolina should be next. TreVeyon Henderson going before him, at #10, no less, would draw plenty of stunned reactions. No doubt, it will come with lots of criticism. Taking a running back that high, in general, is risky, but the one many see as the third-best at the position in this class only makes it worse. Then again, Johnson never seemed to care about stuff like that. The Lions took Jahmyr Gibbs 12th in 2023 to a chorus of disbelieving laughter. He is now a Pro Bowler. If one of the top prospects doesn’t fall to them, the Bears may view Henderson as their emergency option.
It is interesting to learn about his relationship with Bieniemy. Where it came from is a mystery. Neither seemed to cross paths at any point before this off-season. Perhaps other acquaintances brought them together. Whatever the case, Bieniemy has a sharp eye for running backs. If he thinks Henderson is the real deal, the Bears are wise to listen.

With the new middle of the Oline…make a hole and watch him burn. Speed kills
I think not to long after Tom Hayes leaves the office of Mayor of Arlington Heights May the 5th and the new Mayor is in place a tax deal will be signed and voted on in Arlington Heights for the building of a new stadium. I know this has nothing to do with the topic but might as well make my own up.
Yeah it’s a tough draft. We really need 3 picks between 20-30 of the first round.
Breaking news: the Bears are going to draft a guy who played in college last year.
Thanks Lambert…
Erik I think your articles are all done with predictive text, you just regurgitate the same info depending on the subject matter. You fail to mention that D’Andre Swift asked Detroit to trade him after they signed Monty as a FA and drafted Gibbs in the 1st round. I don’t think it was a falling out with Johnson, but a beneficial move for all concerned. Then Philly signs Barkley as a FA and he once again becomes expendable. He’s only 26 with a lot of rubber left on his tires. I see good things for this next season, unless he’s… Read more »
