Tom Brady is Open to Mentoring a Young QB, You Say?

-

The Chicago Bears have big decisions to make at the quarterback position this offseason. For now, they’ve stated that Mitch Trubisky is their starter going into 2020. This might be true for the moment, but things can change fast in the NFL. People know this. All it takes is for the right circumstances to arise and a team can instantly change direction. Rumors persist that the Bears will absolutely explore their options in March and April. Will Tom Brady be one of them?

Speculation has been rampant for weeks already that the all-time great quarterback may finally leave the New England Patriots after 20 years of service. Yet there is zero indication he’s planning to hang it up. Belief is strong that he wishes to keep playing, even if it’s somewhere else. inevitably this led to questions of whether the Bears are even possible. There is no reason to think they can’t be if the price is right. The team has a quarterback-friendly offense and a player’s coach in Matt Nagy.

There is also apparently another part of the deal that might entice the team according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.

“Brady also is eager to take on the role of mentor to a young quarterback, no matter where he plays, hoping to leave any organization in good shape when he retires. Part of his legacy, he believes, could be tied to seeing future generations embrace the TB12 training and lifestyle regimen that Brady strongly believes has helped him play so long at such a high level.”

Tom Brady would be so good for Mitch Trubisky

People talk about how great Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers are, and this undoubtedly true. However, what often gets lost in their epic rises to greatness is who they had as teachers. Mahomes learned from Alex Smith, a Pro Bowler with one of the sharpest minds in the game. Rodgers learned from Brett Favre, a Hall of Famer. Try to imagine the unbelievable wealth of knowledge that Trubisky could tap into with Brady.

Nobody understands the value of preparation and poise better than the six-time Super Bowl champion. He could teach things to the 25-year old that Nagy and his staff never could. Fundamentals? Film study? Understanding how to read defenses before the snap and knowing where to go with the ball? Brady has done it all. His presence could be the missing piece that might help Trubisky take that next step in the long-term.

Of course, so many things need to go right for this to happen. Brady has to be interested in the Bears. They have to be willing to meet his price tag. Neither feels feasible at this point in time. Not to mention La Canfora has a history of spotty accuracy with his sources. That said, this is certainly something that would appeal to those inside Halas Hall who wish to salvage Trubisky.
