That Time Brandon Marshall Said Jets Would Regret Taking Wilson Over Fields

-

Justin Fields has played three of his fellow 2021 NFL draft quarterbacks this year. He’s beaten all three of them. Trey Lance, Davis Mills, and Mac Jones fell to him. Now Zach Wilson is up next. Or at least that’s the narrative the media wants to run with. The problem is there is a possibility neither quarterback plays. Fields is nursing a nasty shoulder sprain that could see him miss the game as a precaution. Wilson, on the other hand, is in danger of getting benched. This comes after an atrocious performance against the New England Patriots, followed by a refusal to accept responsibility after the game. Reports suggest teammates are tired of him, and his time as a starter might be over. It is a disaster, leaving many wondering why New York convinced themselves Wilson was a better option than Fields. Well, Brandon Marshall did try to warn them.

The former Pro Bowl wide receiver has a unique perspective on this situation. He played for both franchises during his career. He understands how much each has struggled to try to find a quarterback. In April of 2021, he spoke on the subject of the Jets taking a quarterback #2 overall. He made his stance clear right away. New York would be foolish not to draft Fields. He gave an in-depth explanation of why during an appearance on First Things First. It’s scary how accurate he turned out to be.

Brandon Marshall knew what Wilson was stepping into.

The kid was born in Draper, Utah. That town has a population of barely 50,000. He grew up in the state and went to school at BYU, cutting his teeth against mostly second-rate competition. He never played in any big-time football games. Fields had the spotlight on him from the moment he left high school. He transferred to Ohio State and played in one of the toughest conferences in the country.

On top of that, he got his team to the College Football Playoffs twice, playing in several nationally televised games. He was forged in the fires of big games. Having the cameras on him wasn’t new.

Times proved Brandon Marshall right. Fields stepped into a large media market with the Bears and has morphed into a budding star. Wilson looked wholly unprepared for what awaited him in New York. That city is chewing him up and spitting him out. He’s already drawing comparisons to Johnny Manziel and Cade McNown. When that happens, your future doesn’t look bright. Jets fans must have that same feeling Bears fans did after realizing they picked the wrong quarterback in Mitch Trubisky over Patrick Mahomes.

Erik, if you want to be taken seriously as a journalist. If you care about football. If you want a career. You stop. Start actually working and quit the bs. Best of luck.

Fields didn’t beat anyone.

The Bears defense kept those teams from scoring more than the Bears.

Praise God the Bears chose Fields! Seriously, after much prayer, God showed me Trump was the guy in 2016 and Fields was the Bears guy over all the rest. What a celebration I had that night! And Jf keeps proving it every game! Go Bears!!!
