One has to admire new Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus. He could’ve done so many things first upon his arrival at Halas Hall. Yet he decided to not only find his offensive coordinator, but decided to outright steal him from the nemesis Green Bay Packers. Rumors began that he wanted their quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator Luke Getsy to run the Bears’ offense. Now it appears he will indeed get what he wants.
Getsy is considered one of the rising stars in the NFL. A young, bright offensive mind that helped Green Bay deliver the best passing offense each of the past two seasons. Aaron Rodgers rediscovered his MVP form thanks to his efforts. Now he’ll have a chance to elevate his profile even further by taking over the development of Justin Fields. Such an accomplishment would no doubt put him in line for head coaching opportunities in the future.
Packers’ QB coach Luke Getsy is expected to leave Green Bay for the Bears’ offensive coordinator job, per league sources. Packers now will be losing Nathaniel Hackett and Getsy, leaving holes in their offensive coaching staff.

Chicago Bears are right to take a chance on Getsy
People will say he’s too young and not experienced enough. That isn’t entirely true. The coach does have playcalling experience. He was the offensive coordinator for Mississippi State back in 2018, helping quarterback Nick Fitzgerald to score 29 touchdowns. He had planned to stay but the Packers came calling with their prestigious quarterbacks coach position and he couldn’t turn it down.

The 37-year old has roots in multiple different systems. Joe Moorhead in the college ranks along with Mike McCarthy and Matt Lafleur in the NFL. All of them are quite different and successful in their own ways. That experience should feed into his plans for Fields and the rest of the Bears offense. His strong background with wide receivers should also be a huge benefit. He worked with several notable names including Jordy Nelson and Davante Adams. This feels that a hire that has tremendous upside.
Not to mention it weakens Chicago’s biggest rival at the same time.
