What does Allen Robinson have to do to get some respect in the NFL? When people talk about the elite receivers of the league, it’s the usual suspects. Michael Thomas, Julio Jones, DeAndre Hopkins, Davante Adams, Keenan Allen, and Tyreek Hill are most often mentioned. Whenever the Chicago Bears standout does come up, it’s in a conversation of solid guys who are underrated.
A perfect example was the 26-year old failing to reach the Pro Bowl in 2019. This despite a standout season of over 1,100 yards and seven touchdowns. Of course those numbers weren’t good enough in the eyes of voters. Sadly this is where context gets lost on people. If only they accounted for who was throwing the ball in these conversations.

There is Robinson at the top. His quarterback in 2019? Mitch Trubisky. Now look at the four men trailing him. Their quarterbacks were Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, Matt Ryan, and Russell Wilson respectively. One of these things is not like the other, one of these things doesn’t belong. If this isn’t enough proof that Robinson is a master of making chicken salad out of chicken s**t, then here’s a few other notable numbers.

Allen Robinson desperately needs a decent quarterback
Could this finally be the year Robinson gets solid quarterback play? Remember this is a guy who’s had his career chained to 1st round busts through six seasons. First with Blake Bortles in Jacksonville and now Trubisky. It’s possible 2020 could finally give him a legitimate opportunity to realize his full potential with the arrival of Nick Foles.
Of course a little good fortune will be required on that front. Foles has never started a full season in his career. It’s been mostly a roller coaster of disappointing play mixed with elite spurts. First his 27 TD and 2 INT explosion in 2013 and then his run to Super Bowl MVP in 2017. This is why experts are still having a hard time figuring out who exactly he is. An elite backup? A Pro Bowl-caliber starter with rotten injury luck?
Maybe this is the year he finally puts it together. If so, then Robinson will get to show the world what he’s really all about.
