Mitch Trubisky Pulled a Tom Brady Move During Bears Practices

Mitch Trubisky Tom Brady practice habits line up similarly

According to Adam Jahns of the Chicago Sun-Times, Trubisky has stayed busy with his job as scout team quarterback. For the most part he’s fulfilled the role quite well. However beneath the being a good teammate part, there was a quiet determination to show everybody that he was not going to sit back and accept his role as backup for long.

This mindset no doubt stems from his extended time spent as backup at North Carolina. Trubisky didn’t get to start for the team until his junior year, something he wasn’t entirely thrilled about. So imagine how he felt about the coaches’ decision to keep him sidelined in favor of Mike Glennon. A man he’d clearly outperformed in preseason. Seems he took his frustrations out on the Bears defense.

Believe it or not at one point in time Brady himself ran the scout team. It seems preposterous now but the future Hall of Famer was the backup in 2000 and at the start of 2001. During his appearance on the Emmy-winning NFL Network series “America’s Game,” he told the story of how he too took liberties with the New England Patriots defense in practice.

Certain things like that probably didn’t make the Bears defenders too happy. At the same time there was a logic to it. Performing like that in practice no doubt had an impact on the teams’ decision to elevate the rookie to the starting job after just four weeks. The fact that Trubisky exhibited similar competitive and hard-working qualities as arguably the greatest quarterback in modern history?

That can’t be a bad thing.
