Matt Nagy Gave His First Update On Trubisky vs. Foles Battle

Anybody with common sense knows how this entire month is going to go for the Chicago Bears. Matt Nagy will talk about the team in every way, but questions will always start with the quarterback battle. Mitch Trubisky vs. Nick Foles. People have hyped it up to a ridiculous level over the past several months and this week marks the first time the two actually got onto the field and practiced.

None of this is a surprise. Quarterbacks move mountains in this league. There are teams that have them and teams that don’t. The Bears haven’t had one in decades. They’re hoping this competition elevates both men to a point where they can help a talented roster get back to the playoffs. It is Nagy’s job to push them and see who responds to the pressure.

At last, the coach managed to get his first serious look at the two of them in passing drills. While nothing significant in terms of overall competitiveness, Nagy was still encouraged by how they operated.

Matt Nagy knows the real test is still to come

These drills are nothing more than the appetizer. The main course will arrive in a few more days. That is when Trubisky and Foles will finally start being able to practice against the Bears defense. Nothing will better determine the one who deserves the job more. It’s an elite unit that won’t allow anything easily. Nagy probably wouldn’t have it any other way.

Pads are expected to go on by August 17th. The Bears will be permitted 14 of them. With no preseason games, one can imagine those clashes will be the decisive battleground. Nagy has gotten creative with his practice structures before, even simulating actual games. One can imagine he’ll be doing plenty of that.
