Luke Getsy Appears To Have A Favorite Player At Senior Bowl

-

Luke Getsy stated without any dodging that his primary job was to find good players at the Senior Bowl for the Chicago Bears to potentially draft. That means anybody who happens to stand out to him in a positive way, both on and off the field, should be relayed to GM Ryan Poles and his front office. One would think as an offensive coordinator that he’d be primarily attracted to players on that side of the ball. However, a recent video dropped by the team hinted that somebody on defense may have his attention.

While running through drills on the first day, cameras spotted him singing the praises of one player in particular. While Getsy didn’t call the young man out by name, he did happen to shout out the school he went to.

A Pitt Panther. When looking at the Senior Bowl roster, there is only one player from that school at the event. He is linebacker Sirvocea Dennis. Based on updates from practices, he has been making his presence felt. So it isn’t a shock to see Getsy may like what he sees.

Luke Getsy seems to have a sharp eye for talent.

Dennis was a productive player for Pitt during his college career. His senior year was unquestionably his best. He finished with 94 tackles, 12 tackles for a loss, seven sacks, an interception, three passes defended, and two forced fumbles. Put simply, he was everywhere. Draft experts love his athleticism, speed, and ability to quickly diagnose what the defense is doing on every play. That is why he flows to the football so well and makes plays. Some teams will be wary of him because of his 6’1 size, but he has the look of a perfect 4-3 outside linebacker.

The Bears need help all across their front seven, including the linebacker positions. Somebody like Dennis would be an intriguing addition to the roster. He could compete for that “Will” spot, presuming they bring back Nicholas Morrow. Current projections have him going somewhere on Day 3 in the 6th or 7th rounds. If his success at the Senior Bowl keeps up, his stock will start rising. Luke Getsy likely will try to stay covert about his interest, hoping the Bears can snag him at some point in April.

He’s also from the Pittsburgh area and has coached for Pitt. Could be a little bias showing. With that being said Dennis is a good player. I would not be mad scooping him up in the later rounds. He’s one of those guys that could end up playing way above his draft position.
