The Chicago Bears offense is never easy to watch. People wonder why being a fan of this team is so difficult. It’s because they keep finding ways to drag football back to the stone age with how they play. Think about this state. Through two weeks of 2022 NFL football, Justin Fields has thrown 28 passes. Total. His 11 on Sunday night in Green Bay was baffling beyond belief. Last week could be explained by the horrible weather conditions. There was no such issue at Lambeau Field. Offensive coordinator Luke Getsy just never let him pass the ball.
By the time they finally did, it didn’t matter. Green Bay knew what was coming, put on some pressure, and intercepted him to ice the game. What made it so much worse is that Getsy never tried using many of the strategies for which his offense is supposed to be known. There weren’t enough bootlegs, moving pockets, and ways to get Fields on the move. Too often, they lined up in the shotgun and had him stand back there to pass. It is evident that Getsy doesn’t trust something about this team.
Either it’s his QB, or it’s those around him.
#Bears will need to develop a much stronger pass game to compete. Schemed throws for Justin Fields. RPOs. Deep balls. Explosive play opportunities.

Justin Fields sorely needs help.
The Bears have a solid running game but that can’t cover up how incredibly invisible their receiving corps has been. Darnell Mooney has two catches for four yards through two games. Cole Kmet doesn’t have a catch and dropped a crucial 1st down in Green Bay. Fields had to do almost everything himself when they had chances to score. He ran one in early in the game and should’ve been given a second touchdown in the 4th quarter.
That doesn’t erase how badly his weapons have performed. The offensive line isn’t much better. Not when they have to pass protect anyway. Justin Fields has to weather the storm. Nothing will come easy for him this year. His job is not to lose his confidence through the tough times. Getsy is learning too. He’s still very young and a first-time coordinator. It could be argued he faced the two toughest defenses in the NFC back-to-back weeks.
Maybe the return of Velus Jones can give them some juice. The good news is the Bears are 1-1. They escaped arguably the toughest part of their schedule without a losing record. Now it’s about building some momentum.
Let me also add that I am sincerely a Fields fan. I would love to see it click for him and him take off. He’s a great kid with a GREAT work ethic, and he appears to be an awesome teammate. He just hasn’t picked the game up mentally like you’d like to see. Which is surprising a bit because he is extremely intelligent. Hope he gets better… hell, even get to somewhere around average would be great.
He was only asked to pass 11 times because Getsy knows there is a better chance of a sack or interception than there is a completion when Fields drops back to pass. It can’t always be bad coaching as why Bears quarterbacks are not good. They just haven’t had luck finding good QB’s. Sometimes you just have to admit the player himself is not looking good. Fields is not the answer. Not unless the question is: Which Bears player could contribute more playing a different position?
@Ralph Law – When did Fields almost pass for 500 yards? I must’ve missed that month.
To be fair, Fields just isn’t very good on plays where he passes the ball. He is unable to read defenses, he is shaky and confused looking on most passing plays, and he has zero pocket presence at all. He constantly takes sacks he shouldn’t. He has the occasional nice pass here and there… He is playing behind a subpar line, but he is also subpar, and not looking much different than last year.
