Jaquan Brisker Called “Best Safety” On Bears Roster Already

-

Jaquan Brisker wasn’t a player Chicago Bears fans expected the team to draft. They had their hearts set on offensive help for Justin Fields. However, GM Ryan Poles pulled a shocker. After selecting Kyler Gordon 39th overall, he grabbed the Penn State safety at 48th. In his mind, Brisker was too good of a talent to pass up. Lots of special traits that could help their defense in so many ways.

Those traits have already started showing up in off-season workouts. The pads aren’t even on yet, but Brisker has continued to make plays on the football. It has become frequent enough to where even the pessimistic media members can’t help but take notice. Adam Hoge made a bold statement on the Hoge & Jahns podcast. Not only does he think Brisker will start right away, he believes the rookie might already be the best safety on the entire roster.

Jaquan Brisker can’t be ignored.

People can say it’s early. The players aren’t in pads yet. That doesn’t erase the fact Brisker is constantly around the football. He is impacting multiple plays in each practice. A player doesn’t automatically do that based on whether he’s wearing pads or not. Brisker has been that effective. For Hoge to come right out and say he thinks the rookie is already better than Eddie Jackson, a former All-Pro, is a wild statement.

Yet the facts are there to be found. Nobody defensive back has made more plays in practice than him. That includes Jackson. Past success does not determine present value. This new Bears regime is interested in who can help them right now and in the future. Jaquan Brisker is already looking like somebody who will be a fixture for them for years. If he plays up to his potential, it isn’t a stretch to say he can be the best safety this team has produced in over a decade.
