People keep talking about what the acquisition of somebody like Russell Wilson might do to the Chicago Bears. Yes, they’d be securing a franchise quarterback who can play great football for them for another five years at least. The cost though would be enormous. Multiple 1st round picks and probably additional picks as well. It’s hard to build a competitive roster that way.

However, as last year proved with Tom Brady, having a franchise QB can be quite a draw for veteran talent. Guys who want to play with him. Tampa Bay was able to sign big names like Rob Gronkowski, Antonio Brown, and Leonard Fournette. It certainly worked out well for them as they went on to win the Super Bowl.

One has to think a seven-time Pro Bowler like Wilson would have the same effect. So if the Bears were to somehow pull off such a stunner, who are a few names he might get up to Chicago?

Russell Wilson could be a draw for some notable names

WR T.Y. Hilton

Subscribe to the BFR podcast and ride shotgun with Dave and Ficky as they break down Bears football like nobody else.

Everybody loves speed. Especially wide receivers who are able to take it over the top. Hilton has done that for the majority of his career. However, it appears after a difficult 2020 season that the Indianapolis Colts are prepared to let him test the free agent market. Being a deep threat, he’s bound to seek out a quarterback he knows can get him the ball down the field. Few in the NFL are better at it than Wilson. He loves the deep strike. So just imagine him having Hilton and Darnell Mooney on the field together.

RB Chris Carson

Depth at running back is ever so important these days. David Montgomery is a tough guy but the Bears didn’t really have anybody of note behind him. Even with Tarik Cohen coming back, it would be wise to stash another capable runner in the mix. Carson has quietly been one of the steadier backs in the NFL over the past four years. He averaged 4.8 yards per carry last season and scored five touchdowns. He and Montgomery would make for a perfect ground-oriented attack to complement Wilson’s aerial assault.

OT Trent Brown

It’s possible the Bears could do some shuffling on the offensive line. Particularly at tackle with Bobby Massie being a prominent cut candidate. One name to watch is Brown. Prior to last season, he was one of the better tackles in the NFL. Injuries slowed him down. Now his contract has become problematic for the Raiders. Having gotten his massive payday, it’s likely Brown will seek out a chance to play for a good quarterback. He is familiar with Wilson, having played in the same division for two years in 2015 and 2016 with San Francisco.

TE Jacob Hollister

Reuniting with Jimmy Graham will be a notable event for Russell Wilson if he comes to Chicago. Not to mention getting more out of Cole Kmet. Still, multiple options at tight end are never bad. Hollister has worked with the quarterback for years in Seattle. They have a nice connection that has led to some big moments. The tight end isn’t the biggest or fastest but he’s versatile and has a knack for making tough catches.

There will be plenty of names to place bets on the Bears signing if Wilson becomes a reality. Smart people will use PointsBet for that. It’s easy to use and you can get a headstart on others by snagging two risk-free bets up to $2000 by just using the promo code Mockery.
