Attending Chicago Bears games isn’t even set in stone yet. Much of that is because the city hasn’t made its stance clear on whether fans will be allowed in venues in excess of 100 people. Never mind the 10,000-20,000 projected. Thus the Bears were honest with season ticket-holders that they can’t offer any clear decision. That is why people are allowed to back out of their commitments this year if they wish.

Hopes remain high that some sort of agreement can get worked out before the regular season begins. Until then no fans are allowed in Soldier Field. Should that change, it appears the NFL is moving fast towards establishing medical procedures to prevent spread of COVID-19 as much as possible.

Brian McCarthy works for Public Relations at the NFL office. He announced that a new mandate will go into effect immediately. All fans will be required to wear medical face coverings during games. This shouldn’t be a big surprise. Not only is it for the protection of the fans themselves, but also players, coaches, and other stadium personnel.

Odds are anybody caught without a mask will be asked to leave the building.

Chicago Bears face the prospect of having no fans at all

The problem for the Bears is they’re at the mercy of Chicago mayor Lori Lightfoot. She’s taken a hard line on coronavirus from the start. Not until a few weeks ago did she allow small business establishments to reopen with limited capacity allowed. According to her five-phase plan, the final phase where large crowds will be permitted isn’t happening until a vaccine is developed by the medical community.

While progress has been made in that department, such a thing isn’t likely to get rolled out for months to come. Definitely not in time for the start of the regular season. If Lightfoot remains steadfast in her position, there’s nothing the Bears will be able to do. That means no fans will be allowed at Soldier Field this season. A depressing thought for fans.
