Former NFL Player Goes Way Over the Top Trashing Mitch Trubisky

-

Look nobody is saying Mitch Trubisky is a star. I certainly have been hard on him, especially in the past two weeks. Yet some people can get a little carried away with their criticisms. Like he’s the worst quarterback in recorded history, which is simply not true. He’s flawed. That much is certain, but there have been far worse names to take a snap under center for the Chicago Bears in the past few decades.

That didn’t seem to bother Ryan Clark. The former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive back appeared on the Scott Van Pelt Show after the game to assess the Bears. When the conversation of Trubisky came up he was, shall we say, “not impressed” with what he saw. Despite the quarterback throwing just six incompletions and three touchdown passes, Clark was absolutely unyielding in his appraisal of the third-year QB.

Ryan Leaf and Jamarcus Russell? Look Trubisky hasn’t exactly been on point lately but did Clark actually watch those two guys play? They combined for 32 touchdown passes total in their careers. Trubisky, for all his faults, has 34. Could he be better? Absolutely. He needs to get better if this team wants a shot at the Super Bowl. Still, that comparison is entirely off base.

Mitch Trubisky has 13 games left to show his growth

If nothing else, this game should be a nice confidence boost for Trubisky. He came in on the road against a bad defense and did what he was supposed to do. He performed well. There are lingering issues he needs to clean up. He had a bad overthrow of Anthony Miller early in the game and a bad underthrow to Allen Robinson that led to an interception. These are things he needs to clean up. He knows that and continues to work on it.

The good news is the offense scored 24 points, delivered in the red zone multiple times, and were 7-of-10 on third down. Trubisky was a big part of that. Hopefully, these good vibes will continue. Everybody in Chicago is hoping for the kid to do well. If for no other reason than to silence people like Clark once and for all.
