Even George McCaskey Is Feeding The Bears Trade Rumors

-

George McCaskey has made it clear time and again that he has no direct say in football decisions for the Chicago Bears. That is why he hired Ryan Poles as GM. The team chairman trusts him with assembling the roster necessary to resume winning. It’s hard to argue with what Poles has done thus far. He acquired D.J. Moore in that blockbuster trade with Carolina for the #1 pick. Then he added some quality pieces in free agency led by Tremaine Edmunds, T.J. Edwards, Nate Davis, and DeMarcus Walker.

Everybody wants to know what the Bears have planned for the NFL draft. It’s a big one. They still have the 9th overall pick in the 1st round and an additional nine picks after that. Poles is well-positioned to add some good players to this roster. People can’t seem to figure out what he will do. One prevailing rumor is he aims to trade down again, hoping to pick up more draft capital. McCaskey, who is in constant contact with his GM on such matters, did nothing to downplay that possibility on ESPN 1000.

“We are in a good spot at 9 and if Ryan Poles sees a player he likes at 9, we will go get him otherwise who knows? Maybe another trade.”

George McCaskey clearly thinks the possibility is there.

He’s already seen how Poles operates. If he is willing to move down from #1 to the bottom of the top 10, there is little to dissuade him from moving down again if the right offer comes around. Two things will motivate him in this regard. One is the belief he can still land one of his “blue” players a few picks further down. Those are players he considers the best in the class. The other is trying to close the gulf between his 1st round pick and his next pick in the late 2nd round (54th overall). He doesn’t want the Bears to miss out on a lot of potential talent in the 30s and 40s range.

As always, it comes down to whether another team wants to come up. That will hinge on the right player being available when the Bears go on the clock at #9. Maybe it will be a quarterback. Maybe it will be a corner. There are several possibilities. George McCaskey is excited, like everybody else, to see what happens next. The draft is less than a month away. Poles is putting the finishing touches on his scouting reports. The board is coming together. Next will come the gathering of intel on where players may go in the picks ahead of them.

Subscribe to the BFR podcast and ride shotgun with Dave and Ficky as they break down Bears football like nobody else.

That will determine what the Bears do.

Every time they show a picture of George like this, why do I always feel like he’s trying to withhold a fart? I feel that’s why he’s got the stiff weird looking picture.

Hey Bildo Dagstein, funny how you critiqued the posts as gibberish nonsense. What the hell do you think your posts are?

Nonsensical gibberish…Who cares.
Rumor has it the Magpie dresses up as Edgar Allen Poe and trick or treats at McCaskey’s house every halloween. And McCaskey throws eggs at him

Bear_Down George gets stomped on often by fans but he’s not the worst owner BY FAR. Everyone that knows him says what a nice and genuine guy he is. He’s humble and used to drive a normal Honda Accord and lives in a very modest home. This all while sitting on Billions. He’s part of the diversity program in the NFL and stays out of the football decisions (which can be to a fault four certain things). We could have a Dan Snyder or a Jerry Jones or the owners from Houston or Robert Kraft getting BJs at Happy Ending… Read more »
