Chicago Bears See Third Player Arrested This Off-Season

-

Things haven’t gone smoothly for Chicago Bears GM Ryan Poles and head coach Matt Eberflus thus far this off-season. At least not when it comes to players behaving themselves. It started with Byron Pringle getting arrested for doing donuts in the street with his young son in the backseat. Then linebacker Matthew Adams got in trouble with police for possession of a loaded firearm without a state license. Both incidents weren’t great but also not major.

That might’ve changed on Independence Day. According to KXII, wide receiver David Moore was arrested in Gainesville, Texas on drug and weapon charges. Moore signed a one-year deal with the Bears earlier this off-season after a long stint with the Seattle Seahawks. Details aren’t yet known but this is not the sort of thing that is likely to improve his chances of making the teams.

“NFL player David Moore was arrested in his hometown of Gainesville, Texas, on Monday. Online jail records show David Lamont Moore, 27, was arrested on drug and weapon charges July 4.”

Chicago Bears may cut Moore soon.

Weapon charges are one thing but drugs is another. Presuming this might be felony-related, don’t expect the Bears to keep Moore employed. He’s on a minimal one-year deal with the team and isn’t considered a heavy favorite to make the roster. Most view him as part of the competition with guys like Dante Pettis, Tajae Sharpe, and Equanimeous St. Brown to claim one of the bottom three spots on the depth chart.

Poles is learning how challenging it can be as a young GM. This is probably not the way he envisioned his start in Chicago going. Three players he signed have gotten arrested in a span of mere months. He needs to send a message that this behavior won’t be tolerated. Cutting Moore immediately is one way to do that. Players have to learn to stay out of trouble.

I’d like to see just one of these holier-than-thou commenters detail precisely how one guarantees that there are zero arrests in the offseason. Just because something bad happens does not mean that a reasonable person “should” have seen it coming. We are talking about human beings here, not football cards where every aspect is legibly printed. No GM in the history of sports has ever hit on 100% of his signings. The Bears third arrest pulls them into a tie with the KC Chiefs for 2022. So, apparently Brett Veach is a lousy GM, too? On a per capita basis,… Read more »

This shitpost is extremely biased. Who are you to say that someone who made a mistake one time should have their livelihood ruined? Pretty harsh.

Not unless they have game breaking ability at least. As long as a player has game breaking ability a team is going to gamble on him and hope he stays out of trouble to the benefit of the team. Guys like Moore however why even bother. This is how Pacman Jones, Antonio Brown, etc has gotten to play for so long. Because they happen to be good. If I were a GM all my bottom roster guys would have no character concerns. As they get better I can afford to gamble a little more.

Leopards still don’t change their spots, so why should humans. Generally if guys are getting in trouble in high school and college, they shouldn’t be considered for any team.
