Chicago Bears Rumored To Have Multiple Offers Waiting For #9 Pick

-

Despite no longer holding the #1 pick in the draft, the Chicago Bears haven’t remained quiet on the rumor circuit. Even before the ink was dry on the deal to send that selection to Carolina, word surfaced that GM Ryan Poles was interested in maybe moving down a second time, hoping to stockpile more picks. A few weeks later, things got even more interesting. It seems Poles has only one player on his board that he would consider worth taking at the #9 overall spot. That is Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter.

Multiple insiders have reported on this now. This is where it gets interesting. Another report offered more information on both rumors. One is that Poles seeks another 2nd round pick in any move down from #9. The other is that two teams have genuine interest in the spot. This comes via NFL Notifications.

Obviously, people will be skeptical of the source since it’s a Twitter profile with no actual name attached to it. Many fake accounts have tried to pass themselves off as legit. Except this one might be the ultra-rare exception. NFL Notify reported that the Bears were committed to Justin Fields before the official announcement went out and correctly pinpointed the Panthers as the team that would get the #1 pick.

If true, this puts the Chicago Bears’ plan into focus.

Poles seems comfortable enough to take him if Carter falls to them at #9. Any other scenario will see the Bears looking to move down. Where it gets interesting is the two teams that might be involved. Pittsburgh was rumored to have called them about it. That makes sense since they have two picks in the 2nd round. Other teams that might be interested are the New York Jets (13th) and Seattle Seahawks (20th). Both also have two picks in the 2nd round. Detroit could be an outside possibility as well.

What isn’t known is which players the interested team could be targeting. Maybe it’s a quarterback that might slip to #9. Cornerbacks, edge rushers, and offensive tackles also could be a prime option at that spot, with Philadelphia sitting at 10th overall. Pittsburgh needs corner and tackle help. The Jets need a tackle or an edge rusher. Detroit may seek their QB of the future. This shouldn’t discount other teams like Washington and Tampa Bay that might jump for quarterbacks too. The Chicago Bears appear to be in a good spot.

Mr. Poles, trade down multiple times to get more 2nd round picks and still be able to take RB Jihan. I know you can do it.

Just saw this stat on another site. The Bears have eight picks among the top 150 spots in this year’s draft; they had a total of nine top 150 picks in the previous four drafts combined: 2 in 2019, 2 in 2020, 2 in 2021, and 3 in 2022. Poles wasn’t lying about building through the draft. Go Bears

@Gremlin’s Chili hole My cousin stepped on a used marijuana needle last week on Lakeshore and now she’s confined to a wheelchair. One hit of the devil’s lettuce isn’t worth the risk, Gremlin. Don’t do it.
