Chicago Bears Coaches Reportedly On The Hot Seat Already

-

Losing only one game at the start of a season isn’t normally cause for concern. However, Sunday felt like a special case for the Chicago Bears. There was a lot of hope and optimism at Halas Hall. After an active off-season to upgrade the roster, the team looked much better from last season. Couple that with Aaron Rodgers being gone, and it felt like the perfect opportunity to beat the Green Bay Packers. Instead, the Bears got absolutely spanked yet again, falling 38-20 at Soldier Field.

What made it so much worse was how unprepared the team looked. Justin Fields showed zero progress as a passer from last season. They couldn’t run the ball. The offensive line committed several penalties and allowed four sacks. Defensively, they surrendered 31 points and only pressured Jordan Love six times. It was a complete failure across the board. When that happens, it’s not a player problem. It’s a coaching problem. Matt Eberflus and his staff failed to have the Bears prepared, and it resulted in the team’s 11th-consecutive loss dating back to last season.

Jeff Hughes of Da Bears Blog checked in with his often reliable sources on the situation. It doesn’t sound great for the coaches right now.

This shouldn’t be a surprise for the Chicago Bears staff.

They went 3-14 last year. Poles then spent ten draft picks and tens of millions of dollars upgrading the roster. It would’ve been one thing if the Bears lost a tight contest. That game against the Packers wasn’t even competitive. Chicago has now lost seven straight to their rivals up north. Eberflus is 0-3 against them, with two of the games being blowouts. Only one other coach in Bears history was fired after only two seasons. That was Marc Trestman. One would think there’s no way that can happen to Eberflus.

Yet the facts remain unchanged. He hasn’t won a game since October 24th. Here are the next six games on the schedule for the Chicago Bears:

  • at Tampa Bay
  • at Kansas City
  • vs. Denver
  • at Washington
  • vs. Minnesota
  • vs. Las Vegas

Tampa and Las Vegas both won last week. Kansas City are the defending champions with the best quarterback on the planet. Washington and Minnesota beat the Bears three combined times last season. Denver has a far more proven head coach in Sean Payton. There is a realistic scenario where this team ends up 0-7 after that slate. There is no way to justify keeping Eberflus at that point.
