Caleb Williams Has One Goal For The NFL, And It’s Ambitious

-

One of the hardest things to do as an NFL franchise when evaluating quarterbacks is figuring out what happens inside their heads. They say the one thing you can’t measure in a player is their heart. The Chicago Bears have drafted plenty of quarterbacks with talent. Most of them didn’t have the necessary mental processing or toughness to handle the responsibilities placed on their shoulders. GM Ryan Poles said this was his top priority going into the 2024 pre-draft process. He had to know which of these quarterbacks has what it takes to handle Chicago. It appears they found their answer with Caleb Williams.

Everybody has seen the USC star as the likely #1 pick in this draft for almost two years. That is how sensational he’s been throughout college. The talent is enormous. They had to find out if he had the drive to become great. The fact they didn’t bother visiting with any other quarterbacks this past month says a lot. Then Williams made an appearance on The Pivot Podcast with two-time Super Bowl champion Ryan Clark. In it, he describes his motivations.

There is only one goal in front of him now. He’s won a Heisman trophy. He will be the #1 pick in the draft. Now it’s all about chasing down Tom Brady’s record of seven Super Bowl titles. Williams even has it on his list of goals on his phone.

Caleb Williams is a determined young man.

As a fan, you wouldn’t have it any other way. Most players give off a vague answer when talking about their goals. Have great years. Win a championship. Not Williams. The MVPs and passing stats will be nice, but there is only one milestone he’s interested in. He wants to be called the best quarterback ever to play the game. To get there, he must conquer the record that seems insurmountable at this point: Brady’s seven Super Bowl titles. The odds of him actually reaching that mark are small, but that is beside the point. When your quarterback sets the highest standards for himself, it bleeds into the rest of the team.

This is another reason why the Bears have gravitated to Caleb Williams. Sure, he has other interests outside of football. He can be a bit eccentric off the field. Yet it doesn’t take a psychologist to see he is a driven young man. Ray Lewis had a great quote about Walter Payton years ago.

“When you combine wisdom with will on top of talent? You get what you call Sweetness.”

It feels like Williams is built in a similar way. He’s already so mature for his age, and nobody can argue about his talent. With how motivated he is to be great, the Bears may finally have something.

What OC Waldron did with Geno Smith, lends hope to the potential of what he will do for Williams. Waldron, no doubt, is already designing plays to get the ball out quick, knowing teams will try to rattle Williams with blitz packages, disguised defenses, and stunts. With the weapons the Bears have on offense, Williams won’t have to worry about lack of time or talent. And if Williams learns to spread the ball around to ALL his weapons, opposing teams will have seizures trying to scheme against them. He can trust his WR’s to win the 50/50 throws, and take… Read more »

Bring Caleb flowers every morning. Throw in an occasional exotic flower, maybe something from the Orient. Tell him how his smile glistens in the sunlight at midfield. Let Caleb borrow your favorite pair of cowboy boots for the Beyonce and Bocephus concert. Heck, who cares if he even returns them, right? The important thing is to hold Caleb close, let him lead on the slow dances, and keep your downstairs fresh.
