It’s been 24 hours and Chicago Bears fans are still buzzing. They can’t believe Russell Wilson, a seven-time Pro Bowl quarterback, actually listed their team as a preferred destination in the event he’s traded. It isn’t a secret things are tense between him and the Seattle Seahawks. Hurt feelings. Disrespect. Enough to where a breakup is actually even being discussed. Would they dare move him? Most don’t think so. At least not this year. However, what if they do? One person who brought some interesting perspective to the situation is Brandon Marshall.

The former Pro Bowl receiver has an advantageous viewpoint in all of this. One because he spent three seasons in Chicago from 2012 to 2014. So he knows the franchise well. Second? He also knows Wilson. His last year in the NFL was in 2018 where he played seven games with the Seahawks. In that time he forged a relationship with their star quarterback. So he has connections to both parties. When appearing on the program “First Things First,” he explained why the move makes sense for Wilson.

Along with a little inside information too.

Now nobody would call Marshall an insider. Still, as a former player, he has plenty of connections. Including the most important ones. To the quarterback and the team who wants the quarterback. It shouldn’t be a surprise the Bears are discussing how to make Wilson happen internally. He’s is everything they could want in a franchise QB. That elusive upgrade they’ve been missing for so many years.

If GM Ryan Pace wanted to wash away the stench of picking Mitch Trubisky in 2017, finding a way to bring Wilson to Chicago would do it. He is the caliber of superstar that can change their fortunes overnight. Somebody other players would want to play with. It would make the Bears a hot destination for free agents. Similar to what Tom Brady just did down in Tampa Bay.

Don’t discount what Brandon Marshall is saying

The guy understands how this league works. He understands how Wilson thinks. He also knows how unbelievably ravenous the Bears are for a quarterback. All Seattle has to do is crack the door open and they will do whatever it takes to make a deal happen. Unlike the other three teams mentioned, they have desperation on their side.

Brandon Marshall knows this. They can worry about the possible consequences later. In this modern NFL, you don’t win without a quarterback. The Bears have made the playoffs twice in the past three years. They were bounced in the first round both times. Why? Their offense couldn’t score. Just 15 points in 2018 and nine points this past season. You aren’t beating Brady, Patrick Mahomes, and Aaron Rodgers like that.

Wilson can be the X-factor they’ve been missing.

He’s 32-years old. He has never missed a game in his career. The way quarterbacks are now, he could have 5-6 more peak years ahead of him. If the Bears aren’t dumb, they could give themselves a couple of legitimate cracks at a Super Bowl championship in that space of time. Will it happen? The odds don’t favor it. Yet the Bears have pulled off bigger miracles before.
