Bobby Massie Sums Up the Bears’ Season in One Misspelled Tweet

-

One of the hardest things to do during a difficult season is maintain an air of positivity. The Chicago Bears are 4-6 and need a minor miracle to make the playoffs or even finish .500. They have one of the worst offenses in the NFL and a kicker who is somehow even more unreliable than the guy he replaced. It hasn’t been much fun. Yet that hasn’t stopped several of the veterans on the team from continuing to push forward in the belief that things will get better. Veteran right tackle Bobby Massie is one of them.

Echoing the motivation of head coach Matt Nagy, he views the game today against the New York Giants as a chance to go 1-0 for this week. It would be a welcome turn of events after such a disappointing failure in Los Angeles last week. In order to get the fans pumped up, he sent a shoutout on Twitter. He no doubt intended to say “New Sunday, new opportunity.” However, that’s not what eventually got sent out.

In the midst of typing, it seems Massie suffered a bit of a Freudian slip. One that almost seems to encapsulate the entire Bears’ 2019 season.

Bobby Massie at least deserves credit for trying

Obviously Massie was just trying to do the right thing by keeping the fans and the team focused on the most important thing. Winning a football game. Still, it’s rather poetic that his tweet would end up that way. It truly does feel like this game has lost a lot of its meaning because of what has happened over the past two months. Maybe there is still a little bit of hope and he’s clinging to that. At least he hasn’t lost the faith, which is something a lot of guys would’ve done by now. Hopefully that tweet won’t set the tone for another tough day at Soldier Field.
