Bill Belichick Seeking Former Bear To Rescue Him From PR Nightmare

-

It is crazy how one of the greatest head coaches in football history has watched his career decline in such a bizarre fashion. Bill Belichick will go into the Hall of Fame someday. It is a lock. He’s the second-winningest head coach in history. There is nothing left for him to prove. Yet the 73-year-old insists on continuing to coach. When the NFL didn’t come forward with offers, he made the bold decision to join the college ranks by taking over the storied North Carolina program. Many felt it was odd since he’d spent many decades at the pro level, but Belichick was free to do what he wanted at this point.

Apparently, the head coach is figuring out that his mystique doesn’t count for much at the college level, especially given his choice of partner. Belichick landed in an awkward spot due to an interview with CBS where he was asked about the relationship with 24-year-old girlfriend, Jordon Hudson. She didn’t take kindly to the questions and tried to cut the interview short, which caused a media firestorm questioning both Belichick and her role in his career. It seems he realizes he can’t get away with what he used to in New England. That is why he’s seeking out a public relations specialist to clean up the mess, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

Per multiple sources, Belichick has been talking to at least one experienced P.R. specialist in the hopes of boosting his book tour and/or the overall interests of the North Carolina football program.

Belichick has been having conversations with former Bears V.P. of communications Brandon Faber. The discussions have been occurring for a couple of months. For now, however, nothing has been completed or formalized.

The potential assignment encompasses working directly for North Carolina and/or assisting Belichick with non-UNC matters. Like his book.

It is obvious why Bill Belichick wants Faber.

The Chicago Bears executive ran the team’s public relations for eight years before team president Kevin Warren brought in Ted Crews to take over those responsibilities. Faber earned a reputation among fans and media for being buttoned up on everything. Access to the Bears was like trying to crack the vault of a high-security bank in Switzerland. Bill Belichick always ran a tight ship in New England as a head coach. It is only natural he’d want somebody to help him do that in North Carolina. Faber makes plenty of sense. No doubt, the PR veteran will be frank with the head coach about his girlfriend’s role in anything moving forward. Anybody with common sense knows it must be the first fat to be trimmed. She clearly has no concept of handling the media, and they aren’t beholden to Belichick just because he won a lot of games.
