Bears Grab Overlooked Cover Corner Kindle Vildor

-

The Chicago Bears seem to know where their bread is buttered. Defense is what drives the train in this town and their 2020 draft is already playing out that way. Three of their first four picks have come on that side of the ball. Offense went first, then it’s been all defense. The latest being another capable cover man for their secondary in Kindle Vildor.

Being 5’11 and coming from a smaller school like Georgia Southern, it was tough for him to get noticed. However, the tape shows an overlooked player who always seems to give receivers fits. He punches well about his weight class and was quite productive. In three seasons he delivered nine interceptions and 25 passed defended. The Bears have suddenly transformed a weakness into a strength.

“He’s a little slender and his speed is average, but Vildor possesses good athletic ability with the man cover talent to stay near his target. He does a nice job of challenging throws effectively when he’s in position thanks to his length and timing, but he’ll need to improve his route recognition and anticipation as a pro.”

Kindle Vildor helps Bears in a tough division

The NFC North is a land of offensive giants. Green Bay, Minnesota, and Detroit all have good quarterbacks with equally good wide receivers. Covering them is a big challenge for any defense. Vildor gives the Bears much-needed talent, depth and flexibility to keep up. While pass rushers might be the most valuable, cornerbacks who can cover might have equal value in this day and age.

It’s apparent Chuck Pagano is putting his stamp on this defense. Priorities have shifted towards the boundaries. He wants guys who can get the quarterback and guys who can give them that extra second to do so. Not a bad plan.
