It’s easy to forget that when it comes to sports, celebrities are just like all of us. They get into it like any regular fan. When their teams lose, it hurts. When they win, it’s pure joy. When it comes to rap and hip-hop icon Bow Wow? He has lived and breathed Atlanta sports for a long time. So one can imagine this past year has been particularly brutal for him.

Things started last year when the Braves went to the NLCS and took the eventual champion Los Angeles Dodgers to seven games before falling short. Then a few months later the Atlanta Hawks shocked the NBA world when they battled their way to the Eastern Conference Finals. They won Game 1 and even tied the series 2-2. All while the Milwaukee Bucks lost superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo to a knee injury. It was a golden opportunity to reach their first NBA Finals since 1961, back when they were in St. Louis. Then they dropped two straight to a Giannis-less Bucks to lose the series.

Mr. Wow was not pleased with that.

Upon mentioning the Falcons, it appears he set off another entire train of thought. The rapper is still furious at that team for blowing their Super Bowl opportunity in 2016 during that epic collapse against New England. If that weren’t bad enough, they found another way to make him even angrier. How? Their decision to pass on quarterback Justin Fields in the NFL draft.

One can understand why he’s upset. Fields is from Kennesaw, Georgia. He was a high school star in that state. He played his first season of college football at the University of Georgia. His returning home to take over the mantle from Matt Ryan would’ve been a tremendous story. Instead, the Falcons opted to select star Florida tight end Kyle Pitts.

Imagine the Bulls passing on Derrick Rose. That is how Bow Wow feels

Not an easy thing to stomach is it? Rose was a Chicago high school superstar. He blossomed in college. Then the Bulls lucked into the first pick of the draft. Try to imagine what would’ve happened if they’d passed on him and taken Russell Westbrook instead. Even if they got a great player, fans still would’ve been furious because Rose was such an obvious choice.

If anything it’s even worse for Bow Wow. Pitts has a great chance to be the next top tight end in the NFL. He is that good. However, he’s still just a tight end. Quarterbacks are different. Their importance in football exceeds any other position by a wide margin. One would think the Falcons, who’ve enjoyed many great years with Ryan, would understand the golden opportunity they were given with that #4 pick.

Sadly they committed a common mistake.

They talked themselves out of Fields. They made some excuses as to why he might not be worth the risk. Pitts was a much safer prospect. With him and the other weapons on that roster, Ryan should still be a top 10 quarterback for another few years. That should keep the Super Bowl window open a little longer. Of course, if that endeavor fails and Fields ends up being a star? That franchise is liable to never live it down. Bow Wow and others will make sure of that.
