Don’t expect any Chicago Bears player to come out and cheer for one quarterback or another in this competition. They’ll be under strict order to keep those comments out of the media. That said, don’t be naive. Guys in the locker room are going to pick sides. It is inevitable. Some will want Mitch Trubisky and others will want Nick Foles. The wide receivers will be the most vocal of all in this. Anthony Miller included.
The third-year man met with the media for the first time on Friday. He discussed what happened last season and his expectations for this year. Where things got pretty interesting is when the conversation shifted to the quarterbacks. Here’s his answer when asked what he looks for from the QB position.
“I just want a guy that takes control. Makes the right decisions when it’s time for him to make them and he’s a leader out there. That’s what we need at that position.”
It got even more interesting when he was pressed on his first impressions of Nick Foles. By the way he spoke, Miller sounds like he’s already an admirer and eager to see the veteran do even more in the coming weeks.
“You can definitely tell that Nick has been playing this game for a long time. He knows this offense very well. He’s very detailed in practice. You can catch him in the back of an offensive play going through his progressions that he’s not even in. That’s just the type of player he is. I can’t wait to see him live action to see what he really can do.”
Anthony Miller may not see Trubisky as others do
As stated earlier, Trubisky has his fair share of supporters. Allen Robinson and Tarik Cohen being two of them. However, Miller may not be in that same camp. One of the reasons he chalked up his second-half surge last season was getting “more opportunities” to catch the ball. Does he mean Trubisky just wasn’t throwing his way a lot?

Well, the data backs this up. In the first nine games of 2019, Miller was targeted just 30 times. In the final seven, that jumped to 55. Clearly Trubisky wasn’t looking his way as often as he probably should’ve. To say nothing of his bad tendency to overthrow the receiver whenever he was open.
It would not be hard to see Miller getting frustrated with the young QB over that. Now here comes an experienced professional in Foles with a Super Bowl ring who has a clear understanding of how to play the position. The grass is always greener as the saying goes.
