Allen Robinson Was PISSED About Report Players Want Nagy Gone

-

It isn’t fun being Matt Nagy right now. On the heels of arguably one of the two or three worst losses he has suffered in his time as Chicago Bears head coach last Sunday, things have only gotten worse in the days since. Most of the focus is on the explosive report via Patch.com indicating that Nagy will be fired following the Thanksgiving matchup with the Detroit Lions. Yet that was merely the high point of the madness. Things actually started when Jordan Schultz, a league insider formerly of Yahoo Sports and who also happens to host a basketball podcast with Allen Robinson, revealed an “overwhelming” number of Bears players want Nagy gone.

This led to the inevitable leap that Schultz got his information from Robinson himself given their relationship. When asked about it during his press conference on Tuesday, it was clear the wide receiver was not happy. Less because he wanted to defend Nagy from the criticism but more due to Schultz putting him in a “vulnerable” position. He made it clear any such leak didn’t come from him. If he wanted somebody to know he didn’t like them, he’d say so himself.

A greater emotional response than one is used to seeing from him.

None of the players who were interviewed during the media session confirmed the report. They insisted Nagy hasn’t lost the locker room. Tashaun Gipson said he’s been part of bad locker rooms in his career and that just isn’t the case in Chicago. Yet this hasn’t stopped insiders from continuing to report problems behind the scenes. Just hours after that statement, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune revealed the head coach canceled all team meetings in the wake of the report he might be getting fired after Thanksgiving.

A decision several weren’t happy about given how they’re trying to halt this five-game losing streak.

Allen Robinson no doubt can’t wait to break free

With the Bears unwilling to offer him a contract he wants and the organization likely to undergo a housecleaning in the near future, it is safe to say the 27-year old won’t be back. Robinson craves not only a strong payday but also more stability on the offensive side. Especially at quarterback. Something he hasn’t had most of his NFL career. While Justin Fields might be the future for this team, it isn’t something a veteran like him can gamble on.

His peak years are dwindling. If he is going to get his money and pursue a Super Bowl, he’ll have to leave Chicago. That is unfortunate. Allen Robinson has been a terrific player for the Bears since he arrived in 2018. Were he to stay, he would likely end up breaking most of the franchise receiving records. Sadly, like many good receivers this team has cultivated, they don’t stick around too long.

A byproduct of this organization’s failure to build offenses.

Maybe that will change with the next head coach. Either way, it is beyond clear that Robinson won’t be around for whoever ends up replacing Nagy. This is why wide receiver may shoot to the top of the Bears’ list of needs in 2022. That is unless they decide to use the franchise tag for a second time. Given his production of late and his resigned mentality? Don’t count on it.
