Akiem Hicks Hung Up on Radio Show After Heated Exchange

-

Akiem Hicks has tried to stay positive in the midst of a frustrating season. He’s still doing charity work and also calling into radio stations to support his team. However, it seems the star defensive end is a little bit on edge lately. That was made clear during a seemingly routine call-in to Waddle & Silvy on ESPN 1000. Things started out innocently enough. They talked about the status of the team and how they’re trying to stay afloat with a 5-6 record going down the stretch.

Things got sideways though when the conversation shifted to the subject of fans booing whenever the offense struggled. Hicks was animated in his insistence that fans try to support the team with positivity rather than boos. It was then Tom Waddle made a comment regarding Hicks’ elbow injury. It was meant as a joke, but the veteran defender got hot over it and ended up concluding the phone call early.

Hicks initially called out the station for baiting him into that situation but later stated that he regretted losing his cool. His issue was it wasn’t good to joke about a guy’s injury that nearly ended his season.

Silvy came out and insisted there was no intention to bait Hicks into anything. That’s never been their reputation for the past several years. It was a misunderstanding. Nothing more.

Akiem Hicks sounds like a caged animal

Truth be told, Hicks is clearly not happy with his current situation. He’s sidelined with an injury while his team is desperately fighting to save the season before it falls apart. Being the leader and competitor he is, it must be killing him that he can’t be out there to help. So one can understand he’d be a little irritable. Waddle simply said the wrong thing at the wrong time and it set him off. Odds are this isn’t something that will linger beyond a week.

Hicks is projected to get back on the field in December. Most likely for the rematch with the Green Bay Packers. Much might depend on what the team’s record is when that time comes.
