Once upon a time, Antonio Brown was the toast of the NFL. There was no wide receiver in professional football better than him. Between 2013 and 2018, he amassed 9,145 yards and 67 touchdowns. The guy could not be covered. However, something happened around the end of that run. Brown seemed to lose control of his mental faculties. Put another way? He went nuts. The list of transgressions is straight out of a Russian novel.
- Tossed furniture out of a 14th-story window, nearly hitting a toddler.
- Caught going 100 mph on a suburban road
- Accused of sexual assault by two different women
- Stripped off his uniform midgame and danced in the end zone as he walked off the field
- Attacked a moving truck driver
- Arrested for burglary and battery
- Failed to pay child support
- Filed for bankruptcy
Watching his disintegration left many believing it was only a matter of time before things went too far. There was no way Brown was in control of himself. People like that inevitably pass a point of no return. It appears he reached it. The Washington Post reported that Miami police are hunting Brown for attempted murder at a celebrity boxing match in May. He’s said to have stolen a gun from a security guard and fired shots at a man he’d been fighting with.
Antonio Brown will blame football for his downfall.
He seems to believe he suffers from CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy). It is a neurological condition where the brain degenerates due to trauma from repeated physical contact. Football players are known to suffer from this condition a lot. It wouldn’t be shocking if Antonio Brown is correct about that, but it is a poor excuse for his behavior. If he felt he had CTE, he should’ve been seeking treatment to help combat the problem. Every indication is that he has done nothing of the sort. He has acted like a man who feels the rules don’t apply to him. It is pretty clear that isn’t the case. If Brown is caught, and there is no reason to think he won’t be, there is a strong probability he ends up in prison. There were likely tons of witnesses and other evidence at the event. He might be screwed.
