Caleb Williams Reveals Ben Johnson’s Blunt Words From First Conversation

-

Caleb Williams almost seemed destined to work with Ben Johnson. The poor quarterback got catfished by fans impersonating the young assistant coach. It’s only fair they ended up working together anyway. Williams admitted he let out a shout of excitement when he got the news. Johnson admitted he’s been excited about the chance to work with the Chicago Bears quarterback for some time. Their relationship will dictate how much success this franchise has moving forward.

During an episode of 1920 Football Drive, Williams talked about their first meeting together. It seems his new coach was candid with him from the outset. There were certain things offensively that won’t work or doesn’t work moving forward. It falls on them to determine the best approach to this challenge. Johnson is an innovator. He likes pushing the boundaries of what you can do offensively. That starts with crafting a scheme to the strengths of your quarterback.

Ben Johnson seems ready to be who Caleb Williams needs.

One thing Thomas Brown said this past season is some coaches have a bad tendency to tiptoe around the quarterback. They aren’t willing to coach them. It was a problem that Shane Waldron ran into during his brief stint with the team. Johnson doesn’t seem to have that issue. He is willing to be honest with his quarterbacks and tell them what they need to hear, even if it might hurt their feelings. Caleb Williams seems to prefer it that way. He wants to be coached. He wants to be great. Hard work doesn’t scare him. Johnson is known for his intensity and perfectionism. He will be on top of everything Williams does. If they both are prepared to make the necessary sacrifices, success will come quickly. It is exciting to hear they’re already on the same page.
