Northwestern Coaching Candidates Connected to Cubs and White Sox

-

Earlier this week Northwestern University announced the firing of head baseball coach Jim Foster, who only lasted one season in the program. Former Chicago White Sox outfielder Brian Anderson was given the interim head coach position and according to a recent report Northwestern is now targeting other coaching candidates with MLB ties, including connections with the Cubs and White Sox.

According to MLB insider Jon Morosi, Northwestern has former Cubs catcher and current Marquee Sports Network analyst Joe Girardi on their list, along with current White Sox assistant general manager Chris Getz. Mark Lorretta and Michigan assistant Ben Greenspan are also mentioned by Morosi.

Speaking for Cubs fans, PLEASE OFFER GIRARDI A DEAL HE CAN’T REFUSE!

For some reason Marquee is forcing a three-man TV broadcast for Cubs games. It’s annoying as hell and Girardi has been the main third-voice in the booth and actually even more annoying, he doesn’t stop talking.

Unfortunately, I don’t think the World Series-winning manager wants to take a college job. Earlier this year, Girardi turned down the head coaching position at the University of Central Florida. But hey, who knows, maybe being able to stay in the Chicago-land area and manage at his alma mater will be enough to entice Girardi away from TV. Or he’s probably waiting for the Cubs to flame out under David Ross, so he can interview for the Cubs job.

As for Getz, I’m assuming White Sox fans want to get rid of everyone associated with the front office. He was drafted by the White Sox in the fourth round back in 2005, played for them in 2008-09, before his time with the Kansas City Royals and Toronto Blue Jays. Getz made his way back to the White Sox organization in 2016, hired as the team’s director of player development. Heading into the 2021 season, the White Sox promoted Getz to assistant general manager.
