It was so annoying seeing Billy Hamilton stroll in to play the Cubs when he was with the Reds and you saw his atrocious hitting numbers, but somehow he’d turn into a solid overall player. But now he can be our annoying player.
Well, hopefully annoying for opponents and not Cubs fans again.
The Cubs picked up Hamilton from the Mets off waivers on Monday and prior to Tuesday night’s game against the Reds he was officially aded to the active roster.
To make room, the Cubs sent right-handed hitter José Martínez to South Bend.
The Cubs were hoping Martínez could help out against left-handed pitching, acquiring him from the Rays a day before the trade deadline. However, Martínez just didn’t look good in his short time up with the Cubs, going 0-for-14, with a walk and three strikeouts.
As for Hamilton, he’s now the Cubs fifth outfielder and basically a better version of Albert Almora Jr. Don’t get it confused, under no circumstances do you want to see Hamilton take big at-bats, but he still provides great tools for a bench player.
Hamilton is a great defensive outfielder and has game-changing speed, which the Cubs severely lack.
