The Cubs start September with a three game lead over the Cardinals for first place in the NL Central division with 26 games remaining in the regular season. The team made four trades at the deadline, adding a couple right-handed hitters and two left-handed relievers. The Cubs are also getting a few veterans back from the injured list.
Kris Bryant has been out with a wrist and finger injury since Aug. 22, and hasn’t played since Aug. 17. He was in South Bend, taking some swings this past weekend and on 670 The Score Tuesday afternoon, Cubs manager David Ross confirmed Bryant will be activated from the injured list and will be in tonight’s lineup against the Pirates.
The Pinwheels and Ivy Podcast was the first to report on Bryant’s return las week.
Along with Bryant, outfielder Steven Souza Jr. will return to the club in Pittsburgh. Souza was placed on the injured list with a right hamstring strain on Aug. 18. He last played in a game on the 17th as well against St. Louis.
On Monday, the Cubs traded for outfielder Cameron Maybin from the Tigers. The Cubs also acquired José Martínez, who will see most if not all the starts at DH against left-handed pitching.
