Tyler Chatwood was making his second start since coming off the injured list, but he exited in the third inning after spiking a pitch in front of home plate against Joey Votto.
Chatwood immediately signaled for the team trainer after the pitch and following a brief talk on the mound the Cubs right-hander exited the game.
Chatwood missed time in August because of a back issue. He returned earlier this week against the Tigers, but didn’t look sharp, walking five and allowing three hits in 1.1 innings.
Right-handed reliever Colin Rea came in to replace the injured Chatwood Sunday.
