The White Sox Are Calling Up Another Outfield Prospect

-

The White Sox have dealt with a bunch of injuries through a third of the 60-game 2020 season, but one silver lining is that fans are seeing some of their other prospects getting called up the show.

We’ve seen a few young arms out of the bullpen and now according to Clinton Cole, outfield prospect Luis Gonzalez has been called up and will be with the team tonight as the White Sox begin a four-game series against the Tigers.

Prior to this past weekend’s series against the Cardinals, the White Sox placed utility man Leury García on the 45-day injured list with a thumb injury, losing him for the rest of the regular season. The team brought up Cheslor Cuthbert to take García’s spot on the bench.

You’d now have to think that either Cuthbert or Ryan Goins will be DFA’d to make room for Gonzalez.

The left-handed outfielder was drafted by the White Sox in the third round out of New Mexico in 2017. In three minor league seasons, Gonzalez has slashed .269/.344/.412. Last year at Double-A, he only put up a .675 OPS.

So, don’t expect much power out of Gonzalez, but he’ll work some deep counts and draw a decent amount of walks. He’s played all three outfield positions in the minors, so is this a little push at Nomar Mazara? We’ll find out soon enough.
