Right-handed pitcher Tyler Chatwood has been scratched from Friday night’s start against the Brewers. Chatwood last pitched against the Royals on Aug. 6, when he allowed eight earned runs in 2.1 innings.
The Cubs will have Alec Mills pitch in Chatwood’s place, as the righty deals with a back issue.
Chatwood was great in his first two starts of the season, allowing one earned run in 12.2 innings against the Brewers and Pirates.
Mills has also been great at the back end of the Cubs rotation, posting a 1.38 ERA through his first two starts. He pitched seven shutout innings against the Royals last week.
Hopefully Chatwood’s tight back doesn’t linger past the weekend as the Cubs have to play two doubleheaders against the Cardinals next week.
