The White Sox had two players test positive for COVID-19, and although the team never announced the players who had the virus it was pretty evident who the duo was. Yoán Moncada and José Ruiz were placed on the 10-day injured list last week, but there was never a specification as to why. This also came after both players had been absent from camp.
So, you can easily connect the dots and there was some worry that the White Sox could begin the season without Moncada, but the third baseman is back in camp!
Ruiz is also back with the club and is going to be with the taxi squad roster at the team’s second training facility in Schaumburg.
Oh and manager Rick Renteria, who was away from the team because he attended a funeral, has also returned.
As for Moncada’s availability, he has one week to get ready for Opening Day. He hasn’t been with the team since the start of this ramp up period, so it’ll be interesting to see how long it takes him to get back into rhythm. Or who knows, maybe Moncada won’t have much rust to begin with.
…nope there is some rust for Moncada. Renteria said he’ll re-evaluate how Moncada is doing in the next few days.
