Tom Ricketts came out to a lot of cheers to begin the 2020 Cubs Convention, but he was also met with a round of boos and they only got louder the more he spoke on Friday.
When you check out the stream of the opening ceremonies on the Cubs’ Facebook page you hear some boos when Ricketts is first introduced, but when the Cubs owner brought up the team’s new Marquee Sports TV Network all you can hear are fans booing a few minutes later.
Ricketts also talked about the team spending money on technology, so apparently that’s why he doesn’t have any more money to spend on actually signing players to MLB contracts these past two offseasons.
For the second straight Cubs convention Ricketts won’t be hosting a panel to take questions from fans. It happens to come right when the team is being financially handcuffed by ownership in free agency for two consecutive years.
