The thing is, yeah Cole Hamels pitched liked trash since returning from his oblique injury, but at the same time it’s not his fault the Cubs didn’t have better options to turn to (or decided not to) and kept trotting him out on the mound when it was obvious he wasn’t right.
Still, he was really bad in the final couple months of the season and is most likely going to another team in free agency after 2019, so it’s kind of a tough look when Hamels publicly calls out the Cubs.
Yet, he’s not wrong about what he said on Thursday.
With four games left to play in 2019, the Cubs have 113 errors, third most in MLB, while also making 63 outs running the bases, which lead MLB.
You don’t have to see the exact numbers to already know the Cubs have been horrible doing the fundamentals in 2019, and Hamels wasn’t shy about pointing it out.
All righty then, thanks for the honesty Cole.
