In a vacuum, the Mets made a really good trade on Sunday, when they acquired right-handed starting pitcher Marcus Stroman from the Blue Jays. New York dealt their No. 4 and No. 6 ranked prospects in Anthony Kay and Simeon Woods Richardson, respectively.
But now what? The Mets are rumored to be shopping around starters Noah Syndergaard and Zack Wheeler, and closer Edwin Diaz. Before the trade for Stroman on Sunday, the White Sox were caught right in the middle of the Diaz trade rumors.

Diaz has broad appeal to teams that want to contend both this year and next. Accordingly, the Dodgers, Reds, Brewers and White Sox are among the clubs that have expressed interest.
The White Sox interested in trading for a closer right after trading for a closer this past offseason?
Well, the White Sox are getting some interest from teams for their current closer Álex Colomé, with the Nationals emerging as a viable trade partner.
So, maybe the White Sox are thinking ahead, trade Colomé and end up replacing him with Diaz?
Sure, Diaz is having an awful year with the Mets after being traded to them last offseason from the Mariners along with Robinson Canó. However, Diaz was great in his first three seasons in Seattle and it’s not hard to imagine that he could get back to that form after his 2019 struggles. Plus, Diaz still has three more years of arbitration, meaning he won’t be a free agent until after the 2022 season.
But this is the time of the year when you can take some trade reports with a grain of salt because the White Sox are just one of 16 teams who have contacted the Mets about one of their pitchers.
Outside of the rumored interest from the White Sox for Diaz, I’ll throw this question out for fans. Who would you rather the White Sox trade for, Edwin Diaz or Noah Syndergaard?
